Malleability issue spotted. No impacts though.

Hello everyone,

I would like to give you a quick update about some of my findings before some FUD happens. I found that there are wrong rangeproofs stored in the blockchain. So basically, there is a function to verify if the stored values match and they don't. In layman terms: You store 1 and 1 and verifies that 1+1 = 2. Monero has 1 and 1 stored but it is doing 1+2 and verifying that it is equal to 3. Very simplified (it is actually a bit more complicated). THIS IS NOT A SOURCE OF INFLATION. I am still investigating further but so far it is a wrong interpretation of the scalars stored which has no impact in the solidity of the proof. It is just annoying as it is not mathematically performing exactly what the equation was supposed to be. Just that so far.

The discussion and issue can be found on my website or on github. Please give me your thoughts and technical contributions too 🙂
